The French J/70 Series is officially under way, and the fleet was treated to spectacular weather in Marseilles, France but just a little bit more wind than anyone bargained.

The Massilia Cup was hosted by CNTL Marseille Vieux Port from April 1st to 3rd.

While Friday dawned with brilliant sunny skies, the winds were gusting over 50 kts all day long. Saturday dawned with virtually the exact same conditions, so the fleet hung-out all day long hope it would die fast. Finally, on day 3, the CNTL Marseilles pulled off a miracle of 5 straight races, much to the delight of the frustrated sailors.

In the end, victory went to the Confluence Sailing Team sailing ZAPPY-J, newcomers to the class.

The next regatta will again take place in Marseilles. This time will be the SNIM Regatta taking place from April 15th to 18th and hosted by La Société Nautique de Marseille.

Thereafter, the J/70 fleet will migrate up to La Trinite sur Mer to sail the famous SPI OUEST France Regatta where around 800 sailboats and over 3,000 sailing friends will congregate for the French sailing version of "Woodstock".

Once surviving the sailing and long evenings of socializing at SPI OUEST, the J/70 fleet will head back down to Marseilles to sail the French J/70 National Championship from June 4th to 6th. Hosting will be the Union Nautique Marseillaise, forty boats are expected for the regatta!
