Sail Canada's High Performance team is pleased to announce its 2022 Identified Athlete Program.

As, normally, identified athletes would be chosen from the Canadian Sailing Youth Squad Trials Camp held each year in January, impossible this year due to Covid restrictions, this year athletes will be invited to apply by sending:

  • a one page letter as to why they want to go to these events;
  • their top 5 performances;
  • their yearly training program;
  • and a coach letter of recommendation.
All applications should be sent to by the deadlines in the list below.

"This program is aimed at our developing sailors who have been identified by Sail Canada as future performers with enhanced training opportunities and exposure to the right International competitions", said Sail Canada's High Performance Director, Mike Milner. "We have been waiting several years to implement this program and we are looking forward to receiving applications from the next up and coming generation of sailors!"

Each event will have a Sail Canada representative who will host a pre-Worlds camp and all athletes will be coached at the selected World Championships by the same representative. Up to a maximum of four boats per World Championships may be selected. Sail Canada reserves the right not to send a team if the level of athletes applying is not to the perceived standard of top 50%. Sail Canada High Performance Director and National Performance Coach will make these determinations within five days of the application closing dates.

Finally, successful applicants will each receive 1000 dollars per single handed team and 1500 dollars for double handed teams.

For more questions or additional information, please contact Mike Milner at .
