After two very interrupted seasons of sailing due to Covid, today, the CYCA Youth Sailing Academy (YSA) are extremely driven to deliver an outstanding 2022 Winter Squad season for sailors.
The world-leading youth keelboat program for 2022 has now been released and will commence directly after the Easter break. The Academy also released dates for their 2022 regatta season with a return to a full schedule of events from July to November.
Whilst Covid is still evident in the community, the Club will conduct a safe program and continues to work with surrounding Clubs to offer youth sailors as many opportunities to get back on the water and racing this coming year.
Highly regarded as the world's leading youth sailing academy, Winter Squads will commence sailing on Saturday 23 April and run through to September.
These squads, which have produced State, National & World Champions, Rolex Sydney Hobart winners, America's Cup champions and Olympic medallists are hoping to return to full capacity for the 2022 season. The three-tier program caters for a variety of youth sailors aged 13 to 25 years.
The Talented Sailor Squad (TSS) is back to a full eight-week schedule conducted on Sunday afternoons from April to July. The program follows on from the CYCA's School Holiday Course program and will focus on developing each sailor's keel boat skills, particularly focusing on introducing spinnakers to young sailors.
The Development Match Racing Squad (DMR) will run on Sunday mornings commencing on 24 April and run through to 10 July. The program incorporates both fleet and match racing disciplines. The popular program, which is designed for sailors 15-18 years of age, will provide opportunities for sailors to represent the CYCA at local, state and national events later in the year. Many school sailors continue to apply for the program which compliments school teams racing programs over summer.
Finally, the world leading Advanced Squad will commence on Saturday 23 April through to Sunday 4 September and is open to sailors 17 - 25 years of age. The squad focuses on high performance sail training and racing and attracts some of the best youth sailors from across the country.
Another remarkable achievement has also been reached for the Advanced Squad so far in 2022, with the squad recently winning a 20th consecutive NSW State match racing title in March.
Squad information is now available online at the CYCA website. For anyone interested in more information, please contact the Youth Sailing Academy directly.
