Fancy racing on a yacht this summer but don't know how to get involved? The Royal Lymington Yacht Club (RLymYC) will be hosting its Centenary Open Day and 'Crew Match' on Saturday 26th March to introduce the fun of sailing and boating to as many people in the community as possible.

The Centenary Open Day will take place from 10am to 4pm at the RLymYC clubhouse in Bath Road, Lymington, with the Crew Match Morning taking place from 10am to 12noon.

Matching sailors with skippers looking for crew

Crew Match is a relaxed and informal event for people to match their sailing experience, level of knowledge and racing ambition with club members looking for crew. Complete beginners are welcome, as well as more experienced crew.

RLymYC Commodore, Phil Lawrence, said: "Anyone interested in boating is encouraged to come along to our Open Day and Crew Match Morning. You don't have to be a member of a sailing club, just keen to participate in our sport. Crew Match introduces the inexperienced but keen sailor to the right team. Many skippers are happy to train those with no sailing experience but genuine enthusiasm. I'm delighted to say that we have had a successful 'match score' over the years with many still competing in our Spring Series and Thursday Night Racing.

We will also be showcasing other aspects of life at the Royal Lymington, both on and off the water, so to find out more about the club please come along."

James (21) went along to Crew Match in 2019: "I'd always fancied crewing on a yacht but had never had the chance. Royal Lymington's Crew Match put me in touch with skippers looking for crew and just a few weeks later I was out on the water. A fabulous opportunity and highly recommended!"

Being part of a crew requires no financial outlay apart from some waterproof kit. On the water competition is always taken seriously but the camaraderie and prize-giving back in the bar afterwards is an equally important part of events.

Potential crew may register on the RLymYC crew register on its website at rlymyc.org.uk/CrewMatch.

So many opportunities to get out on the water at RLymYC

RLymYC offers plenty of opportunities for keelboat sailing, power boating, dinghy sailing, RYA training and junior coaching, racing and adventures, as well as many other events for newcomers to enjoy. The club's junior and youth sailors are out in all weathers having fun. On the water activities are known to enhance self-confidence, resilience, teamwork, and leadership skills.

Centenary Open Day

Everyone is welcome and no prior boating experience is required to join the RLymYC and take part in the huge number of activities on offer.

During the Centenary Open Day, representatives from many areas of the club will be on hand to show visitors around, with a selection of members' boats available to view.

Whether your passion is powerboats, motor cruisers, yachts, dinghies or paddle boards you'll find a warm welcome, excellent facilities, first class training, expert waterside services and a thriving social programme for all ages both afloat and ashore at RLymYC!

This year Royal Lymington Yacht Club is celebrating its Centenary and there has never been a better time to join them out on the water!

Visit the Royal Lymington Yacht Club on Saturday 26th March between 10am and 4pm and get into boating!
