The Queens of the sea are back in Portofino with the Regate di Primavera - Portofino.

After the success of the 2021 edition, with the Gulf of Tigullio saluting the return of the races with extraordinary weather conditions, in 2022 the binomial sailing-Portofino is in the spotlight again thanks to the collaboration between the Yacht Club Italiano, the municipality of Portofino, the International Maxi Association and Rolex as official timepiece; four days of splendid races on the water to celebrate the ancient link between the town and the sport of sailing.

The programme

The Regate di Primavera will start officially on Thursday, April 21 with the arrival of the yachts and registration procedures. The boats will be moored in Portofino Yacht Marina until all the berths are filled, then in the Porto di Santa Margherita Ligure and at anchor in the beautiful bays around it. Action on the water begins Friday, April 22 with the start of the first race and will end on Monday, April 25 with the final race and the prize-giving.

The races

The Trophy is for yachts of more than 18 m overall and, unlike 2021 when an invitation formula was adopted, it is open to all yachts of more than 60 feet with IRC certificates. The entries will be divided into two groups: racers and cruiser-racers, and will sail on different courses in the Gulf of Tigullio: races round the marks for the former and coastal races for the latter.

Among the innovations this year: the Regate di Primavera will also be the theatre of the Mylius Cup, the trophy for the fast yachts built by the Podenzano yard.

The prizes

YCI Trophies for the top three in each group (racers and cruiser racers), IMA Trophies for the two IMA owners best placed in the two classes, YCI Challenge Trophies - one last year by Alessandro Del Bono's Capricorno will also be awarded to the leaders of the two categories. The Trofeo Mylius will be awarded to the best placed Mylius yacht.

The organisation

The Regate di Primavera - Portofino are organised by: Yacht Club Italiano, municipality of Portofino, International Maxi Association and Rolex as Official Timepiece.

Splendido Mare - a Belmond Hotel - is Hospitality Partner with Banca Passadore Technical Partner. The races were made possible thanks also to the valuable collaboration of the Comune di Santa Margherita, the Portofino Yacht Marina and Progetto Santa Margherita. Under the aegis of the Federazione Italiana Vela and the patronage of Regione Liguria.

Naturally, during the event specific protocols will be adapted for the maximum safety of participants, respecting the regulations in force at the time for combating and containing the spread of the Covid 19 virus.
