With a forecast of strong gusty wind and showers, 18 keen sailors launched on Saturday for the third in the series of Winter Race Training sessions.
Lead by RYA coaches Stuart Jones and Izzy Cramp supported by a team of SYC's own RYA level 2 Race Coaches, two groups of young sailors spent another full day on the water.
The sailors came from various clubs in the south west, and were split into two groups based on their racing experience. The majority sailed Toppers and Teras, and the addition of two new Mini-Rig Teras enabling two smaller sailors to actively participate despite the blustery conditions.
Both groups focussed on strong wind techniques, boatspeed and sail control, along with some follow-my-leader and practice races. With the wind disappearing after the final shower of the afternoon, the fleets returned to shore to warm up and dry off!
Particular thanks to all of the coaches, as well as the parent helpers on shore and on the water, and to SYC for hosting.
The next session is on the 22nd January, and further training opportunities are listed at www.starcrossyc.org.uk
