Sun and a strong nor'wester provided a colourful setting for the start of Saturday's BWPS Audi Centre Sydney Bird Island Race. With 14-18 knot winds occasionally gusting up to 25 knots the fleet powered off the start line near Shark Island and charged down Sydney Harbour.

Sean Langman's Moneypenny led Anthony Johnston's URM through the Heads. Following a fast reach north and back south, URM's extra waterline length paid dividends powering her to a Line Honours win and a race record, some five minutes ahead of Moneypenny. The rich got richer in this race with the big boats all long home when the breeze died in the late afternoon. With four boats still at sea at 9.30pm on Saturday evening, Matt Allen's Ichi Ban is holding a provisional overall win on IRC, ORCi and PHS. Jules Hall's Disko Trooper_Contender Sailcloth won Line Honours in the two hander division and holds top spot on IRC and ORCi.
