The Rimini Yacht Club once again hosted a "spectacular" event for the Italian national sailing scene.

In fact, the Italian Under-21 Club Championship was held last weekend, organized by the Romagna club, with the collaboration of the Italian Sailing League, under the aegis of the Italian Sailing Federation.

The organization of the Rimini Yacht Club was impeccable, offering unique hospitality for the crews. The youth sailors had a wonderful, captivating time sailing the matched fleet of one-design J/70 class boats, thanks to the generosity of the Lega Vela Servizi, a partner for the Under-21 youth sailing initiative.

There were two days of sailing with varying, quite challenging conditions. In the end, the youth team of the Società Canottieri Garda Salò immediately aimed for the top step of the podium and, at the end of the 15 races, took home the championship!

However, there was an even bigger story within the event. The "boys" on the Società Canottieri Garda Salò had to win on a tiebreaker over the "girls" team from the host club- Yacht Club Rimini! To say the least, for them, it was an unexpected and very exciting conclusion to their event to end with silver medals around their neck! In third position was the Crotone Sailing Club which had lined up experienced sailors such as Demetrio Sposato and captain Matteo Verri.

The President of the Italian Sailing League, Roberto Emanuele de Felice, was satisfied with how the season went; commenting, "we couldn't have hoped for better. The continuing difficulties due to the pandemic still under way put us to the test. But we didn't give up and we moved on, completing the racing program. Our heartfelt thanks go to the Rimini Yacht Club, which played a decisive role this year, allowing us to sail both the Italian J/70 Sailing League National Championship as well as the Italian J/70 Under-21 Youth Championship. The amazing support from the Lega Vela Servizi was fundamental to the success of the two events. I thank the President- Alessandro Maria Rinaldi- for help and ever-present support of the LIV and its affiliated clubs."

The Yacht Club Rimini girls finish in second place, losing the tiebreaker. However, the Romani girls were overjoyed with their great accomplishment... you can see it in the video below:
