Team DutchSail - Janssen De Jong wins Youth Foiling Gold Cup Grand Final

by Team DutchSail - Janssen de Jong 4 Nov 2021 16:03 PDT

Wednesday on the closing day, Team DutchSail - Janssen de Jong took the overall victory in the Youth Foiling Gold Cup Grand Final. The team with Cas van Dongen, Scipio Houtman, Ismene Usman, and Merle Louwinger sailed to victory in all three races of the day. Winning 5 out of the 7 races in the Grand Final. With their victory in Act 1, 2, 3 and now the Grand Final the young Dutch team has more than proven to be the best in the category under 25 throughout the season.

Coach Postma: Fantastic!

Coach Pieter-Jan Postma was very proud of his young athletes afterwards. Postma: "Becoming the best is one thing, but then staying the best. Wow, I'm so proud of these four wonderful people: Cas, Ismen, Scipio and Merle. How these four have sailed and handled the pressure in the last three days. They kept their head cool and even took the win all three races today, it's fantastic!"

Houtman: satisfied

Mainsail trimmer Scipio Houtman: "It's great how we continued to work together as a team. We were able to finish it off today with three wins, that's awesome. Today everything could still happen due to the new format, but we sailed out of our task. We executed our own game plan. It's very satisfying to be able to do that on such an important day and all the pressure that comes with it."

Usman: dream come true

Flight controller Ismene Usman: "The feeling of relief and joy when you cross the finish line. It was very emotional, first with the three of us and soon with the five of us, with Merle and PJ there, wonderful. We're going to enjoy it tonight, have a small party and then the focus is on the Pro Event in Palermo. To be honest, that's a dream come true for all of us."

Ticket for Pro Cup

With the win, the Dutch team secured the last ticket to the very first 69F Pro Event, from November 12th - 14th. For the young sailors of Team DutchSail - Janssen de Jong a unique opportunity to sail with and against great sportsmen such as Francesco Bruni (helmsman of Luna Rossa in America's Cup), Phil Robertson (SailGP skipper and multiple world champion match racing), and Dylan Fletcher (Olympic 49er Gold in Tokyo).
