Les Occasions du Multicoque - "an amazing level of enthusiasm around the event"

by Les Occasions du Multicoque 14 Oct 2021 05:35 PDT

The recent sixth edition will certainly be seen as the most unusual. With the multihull market continuing to develop in such an incredible fashion, the pre-owned market is a victim of this success story.

With more than 35 boats registered at the start of September, only around twenty or so finally turned up in front of the new ONIRIA Aquarium in the harbour area that has been so magnificently renovated.

"You have to wait for a new multihull, so people are looking instead at pre-owned boats that are immediately available," explained Jean-Pierre FRERY of Catam's by Cap Ocean. "A pre-owned boat is becoming increasingly appealing and it is a tight market with a clear lack of products."

So, this ruthless logic means that with such enthusiasm for pre-owned boats, products are that much rarer.

However, the key element remained intact for this latest edition, as more than half of the boats on show found a buyer. An Excess 11, Lagoon 52F, Lagoon 380 S2, Lagoon 450F, Nautitech 46 Open, Lagoon 380 and a Bali 4.0 all changed hands. On top of that, all of these brokers were able to add new prospective clients to their address books, some of whom came from afar with genuine projects involving short or medium term purchases.

All of these sales go to confirm the legitimacy of this very special show, which is the only one of its kind and which is now well known beyond the region. "We've come from Switzerland, Belgium, Canada, Brittany and South Africa," were among the statements heard at the reception desk.

This Show set up in the heart of the NAUTIPÔLE site threw the spotlight on all of the businesses involved in the marine area in Canet-en-Roussillon. All of the skills required for refits can be found here alongside sailmakers, chandlers, upholsterers, engine makers, etc.

This business cluster has become a reference for multihulls with sails or engines with the facilities making it possible to carry out lifting operations, wintering, and relaunches, with in particular a 200-tonne, 12-m wide travel lift, which can cope with multihulls, which are becoming longer and wider.

The 2022 edition is set to offer even more pre-owned opportunities and conferences on major voyages are planned with these multihulls as the best ambassadors.
