Brisbane's Bayside Slalom

by Mitch Pearson / SurfSailKite 10 Oct 2021 22:54 PDT

The second round of the Bayside Slalom series took place at Manly, QLD in 15 to 20 knots Southerly Wind. 21 Sailors took part in six fast and action packed races.

Each race consists of a two lap figure of 8 reaching course. Check out the thrills and spills from this exciting racing while listening to the laid back commentary of 'the battlers' Kevin Costin and Scoobs. Watch out for the 'camera cat' Julien Savina on the foil with the 360 camera. We are currently trialling the use of foils on the race curse with fins (usually separate races). Drone footage by Matthew Chew.

Bayside Sailboards is an inclusive and supportive club who love to see sailors coming and testing themselves on the racecourse while enjoying themselves to the fullest. We are a bunch of sailors who love nothing more than sharing the course with our friends while improving our skills and the banter that comes with it at the after race BBQ.

We got Kevin Costin (Black Jack tactician for B2G) and Nathanial Dutton aka 'Scoobs' to do some light hearted commentary for our races. Matt Chew was flying the drone.

We produce the videos under our sailing group known as 'The Battlers'. (link www.facebook.com/battlersdivision) The battlers are all the windsurfers and foilers (wind, kite and wing) who thrive on the underdog tag, who aren't pros, but strive to beat the pros at their own game. Those weekend warriors, mere mortals, who grow the sport and push it forward.
