Briefings September 22, 2021
The start of the sailing season is supposed to be something to celebrate so it's been difficult to see all of the events affected by Covid-19 and the ongoing lockdown in Auckland. We bring you details of a few of them here, but also information on safety certificate exemptions for this year's Coastal Classic, some guidance on what to do if your club or class association is looking to run a regatta under Alert Level 2 as well as information on what to do if you want to check your boat at a marina or mooring under Alert Level 3.
Our lead story this week celebrates the first batch of winners announced for this year's Yachting Excellence Awards. Judge Peter Lester noted just how difficult it was to pick the winners, despite the considerable affect Covid-19 had on events. Of course, the Yachting Excellence Awards are also a time to celebrate the contributions of volunteers, so take a look to see if someone at your club is recognised.
We also offer our regular features, like Regional Roundup and Keep it Clean, as well as a story on some important new features for next year's Tanner and Tauranga Cups to encourage greater female participation and engagement. As always, let us know if you've got any news or suggestions by emailing michaelb@yachtingnz.org.nz.
