Southwest Offshore Group Series 2021

In what has been another difficult year for both competitors and organisers, it is great to see that 80 boats have qualified for points in this FIRST OFFICIAL SOGS which consisted of 10 races completed out of the 17 planned for 2021.

Unfortunately the cross-channel races were unable to happen due to Covid, but nevertheless the efforts from all concerned produced a really interesting and competitive series, with the top 7 IRC boats overall coming from 4 different class bands and the MOCRA class being competed by no less than 15 scoring boats.

The SOGS is a brand-new race format which consists of races from sailing clubs all across the Southwest peninsula. The clubs offer current races that qualify from their regular calendar, and it is then graded for its points tariff, the longer the race the higher the tariff. This allows all local southwest and Channel Island's boats to have an involvement. There is a further incentive* to race out of other southwest ports, being a traveller's tariff of 0.3 on top of the race score.

The Southwest Peninsula has some of the most beautiful coastlines which can provide some of the most challenging offshore and navigational conditions seen anywhere in the northern hemisphere. Each race within the SOGS programme offers a unique challenge to competitors, whilst enjoying the very best hospitality from each and every one of the host clubs involved.

*Incentive does not apply to the Plymouth Fastnet 500 or Original Lonely Rock races
