Canadian sailors Antonia and Georgia Lewin-LaFrance from Chester, N.S., won the bronze medal at the 2021 49er FX European Championships held in Thessaloniki, Greece.

Sitting in fourth before the last day of the event, the Lewin-LaFrance sisters finished the competition posting a 5th, followed by a 3rd place-finish in the medal race which consisted of the top 10 boats of the 14 races series where points were doubled. They were able to climb one spot and finish on the podium.

"It was our first time doing a medal race and we came third and beat the Danish (Johanne & Andrea Schmidt) to take their spot as they were in third place, said Antonia and Georgia Lewin-LaFrance. We've been working hard so it feels good to see it pay off."

The Canadian team placed ahead of nine of the 10 teams who finished in the top-10 at the 2021 World Junior Championships held last July in Gdynia, Poland.

Antonia and Georgia Lewin-LaFrance, respectively aged 24 and 21, will now head back to Canada for training before their next competition.
