Carey Olsen Jersey Regatta 2021 - Flagship event on track for a superb event

by Bill Harris 1 Sep 2021 23:45 HKT 9-12 September 2021

The 23rd edition of the combined clubs' Jersey Regatta, generously sponsored by offshore law firm Carey Olsen gets under way on Thursday 9th September. Regatta Chairman Bill Harris reports that the greater part of entries, including those of visiting boats, are in and that preparations are on schedule for this three day jamboree.

Whilst the Government's 'track and trace' rules continue, this 'flagship' event is expected to open with the usual welcoming reception and distribution of 'goodies' on the Thursday evening followed by the customary regatta party on Saturday and a bumper prize-giving on Sunday to close proceedings. All but the party night are included in the entry fee.

Racing runs from Friday to Sunday over courses set in and to the south of the beautiful arena of St Aubin's Bay.

The 8th IRC Channel Islands Championship is, once again, a major attraction in the cruiser/racer programme. Whilst Jersey's racing community exudes a strong competitive element in all classes, the Regatta is designed to accommodate sailors from across the spectrum, novice and expert alike. With the total absence of visiting boats in 2020 due to Covid, this year sees the truly welcome return of boats from Guernsey, France and the UK.

Latecomers might be pleased to know that the closing date for entries has been extended to Wednesday 8th September. Entry is online through www.jerseyregatta.com; this is where skippers will find all of the essential documentation, starting with the Notice of Race.

Complimentary berthing, kindly provided by Jersey Marinas, is once again a feature for boats competing in the Regatta. Visiting boats will need to contact Jersey Marinas to book a berth prior to arrival (contact: ) and crew members will need to take a PCR test (see www.gov.je/Health/Coronavirus/Travel/Pages/CoronavirusTravelAdvice.aspx).

As ever, competitors are assured of a warm welcome and, weather permitting, a great and memorable time at the Carey Olsen Jersey Regatta. For further information, contact: in the first instance or call +44 1534 732229.
