At the beginning of July we were welcoming a new face onto the International Moth podium when Nicolai Jacobsen (HKG) took third place in the Liberty Bitcoin Moth Cup 2021 during Foiling Week 2021. At the time we spoke to winner Tom Slingsby who said, "Nicolai has got faster every day over the month that I have known him. He really is the man to watch in the Moths right now. He has a huge amount of talent, and works really hard, and he's only 19. I wish I was 19 all over again."

30-31 August was the Italian Moth Series 2021, aka the Moth Pre-Worlds. With 72 boats on the start line, Jacobsen scored (9), 6, 2, 3 to take the win ahead of a whole raft of top names including Kyle Langford, Paul Goodison, Tom Slingsby and Nathan Outteridge. 'Nuff said.

Tomorrow is the opener of the 2021 International Moth Worlds at Fragiavela Malcesine, on Lake Garda. This time there will be 153 starters and five days of racing. Jacobsen says, "the Pre-Worlds was a good confidence booster for the Worlds, but I know there were plenty of people out there tuning boats and testing equipment, so I'm not counting any chickens." Still, there may be a few more people out there wishing that they were 19 once again. Watch this space.
