The Zhik 29er World Cup 2021 in the waters of Valencia is in the final stretch and and the points are close going in to the final day.

The penultimate day was marked by a storm in the morning that forced a postponement on the shore and by the strong winds in the second race. The important turnaround in the provisional general classification has also been another outstanding element of this fifth day at RCN in Valencia.

The home club brothers Mateo and Simón Codoñer have taken a giant step forward in their goal of winning the title. The Valencian pair, with race results on Monday of 4-11-1 are now on a total of 44 points, leading overall and first amongst the under 17s.

Behind, in provisional silver, are the French team of Keo Devaux and Enael Rio, who did not had a good start to the day with a 33rd in the first race, moving them off the podium at that time. They worked hard in the second to take a deserved 10th place, concluding at the end of the day with a 14th. They are now 5 points behind the Codoñers.

In provisional bronze medal position are the Danes Jens-Christian and Jens-Philip Dehn-Toftehoj who, like the French, had a mixed day. In the first race of the day they had a 5th place, then won the second race, only to fall to 38th place in the final race of the day, putting them on 51 points, just 2 behind silver and 7 behind gold.

Quicorras Urios and Filippo Benetti (RCN Valencia) also rose to the occasion, and are now fourth with 52 points. With race results on Monday of 11-18-2 they are left with 52 points and mathematics still makes them dream of the title. The Spanish-Italian tandem is one point from bronze, 3 from silver and 8 from gold.

Tuesday 31st August is the sixth and final day of the 2021 Zhik 29er World Championship at RCN Valencia with three races scheduled, with the first to start at 1pm.

Quotes:

The Codoñer brothers: "At the beginning of the World Cup we were going badly and now we are first. The conditions have been variable since we have made ourselves different from the others, but hey, in the end we are up there, which is the important thing. Also thanks to our coach Javier Serrano. We are also from here, so the conditions have helped since we are at home."

Chloé Revil and Castilla Nell: "The speed of the boat is good, we made a good start, we hope we did well, except for the wind, because it has done a lot and it has been difficult, but yes, we have done the best we could, but we will see. Maybe with less wind and cleaner, but yes, we will do our best."
