Burnham Week 2021 - Day 2

Day two again saw a northerly. The Multihulls filled the line, but most took advantage of the committee boat end to get then most advantageous start. Race One saw NRB win again, with Grey Goose Ken Whyte second, Persuasion Simon Barnes third. Race Two today had exactly the same results. NRB leads the series with four bullets.
In Class One Jeannie, John Saunders got the best start followed by Jackal, Digger Harden, Mike Schneidau and Richard Oram. The larger waterline boats soon got to front, and Exile led the fleet home, followed by Jackal. Jeannie were third on the water, with Mantra, managing to finish under asymmetric kite fourth on the water. Slipstream helmed by Lizzie Brown were next, also under kite, with Skullduggery following. Jeannie won, with Jackal second and Mantra third.
Class five saw Grace and Danger up to weather of Eclipse, Daryl Mylroie, bang on the line at the committee boat end. Helm's Deep was a little line shy in the middle of the river, heading over to the North Shore behind the leading two. The last leg home saw Stephen Gosling in the SJ27 Grace and Danger very close to the higher rated Maxi 1000, Eclipse. Grace and Danger won by just under three minutes, with Eclipse, Darryl Mylroie second and Sandhopper, a Parker Seal 27, Ernie Brevington third. Grace and Danger lead the weekend points with two firsts.
In Class Six, the fleet mostly started at the committee boat end, with just Kate the Kite at the pin end, the majority headed straight to the North Shore to get out of the strong flood tide, but Keith Musto tucked himself right up under the South shore. Traigh, sailing single handed, managed to stay ahead of Kate the Kite for the race, but didn't manage to save her time. Ophelia, Richard Moore won with Kate the Kite second and Rupert Brown in his Contessa 32 Zora, third. Dan Tribe in Traigh came fourth. Ophelia leads the series with Kate the Kite second and Zora third.
The large Elite fleet had two races. In the first race, the fleet were really close together right up to Greenward, before running up the roach. They enjoyed a good beat out of the river to Reward before going back up the Roach. Paul Risk won the first race in Legs Eleven, with All the Gear, Neil Fulcher, with The Outlaw third. In the second race, All the Gear started on the South Shore, with the rest of the fleet starting in the North Shore. The results for Race 2 Oink Squeal, Bill Blank, won, with Legs Eleven, Nick Fisk second and Richard Bavin in Serious Moonlight third. Legs Eleven are leading with three firsts and a second from Oink Squeal.
The 707s had really good competitive racing in and out of the Roach. Feeling Touchy, had an excellent start, but lost out with spinnaker issues on the first leg, going back to 5th. Cezanne, Tony Hall led after the first beat and went on to win from BQ, Billy Quinn with Feeling Touchy, Eugene Quinlan. In the second race, James Dallimore took the win, with Feeling Touchy second, and Cezanne third. Overall, James Dallimore is leading with Cezanne and BQ on the same points, with Cezanne ahead on countback.
The Dragons had a split decision on the start line, with some hoisting spinnakers and some not. Peter Marchant and Katie Cole in Beauty and the Beast were leading to Greenward. Beauty and the Beast won, with Avalanche, Mark and Amanda Wade second, and Anarchy Chip Cole third.
The first race for Squibs saw Humphrey, Robert Coyle, lead with Malcolm Hutchings in Lady Penelope, Mickey Wright in Spoof and Hartbeat Dan Wastnage all near the front. By the final leg, Mickey Wright in Spoof was leading with Malcolm second, Phil Aspinall in Guy Fawkes worked his way through a lot of the fleet to come 3rd, with Heartbeat fourth and Humphrey fifth. Race two of the day saw Mickey Wright and Alex Porteous in Spoof take their second win, with Phil Aspinall in Guy Fawkes second and Malcolm Hutchings in Lady Penelope third. Ray Apthorpe in Nemesis took fourth and Dave Hyde in Sophie fifth. Phil Aspinall in Guy Fawkes leads the series by a point from Spoof with Jono Brown in Squiggle third.
The RBOD fleet had Aqua Marine Angela Shepherd lead the race on the first leg of race one, with Mandarin and Red Jacket close behind, Phalarope sat in fourth. By the final mark, Will Dallimore in Mandarin was in first place, with Aqua Marine second. At the finish, Will Dallimore took the win with Aqua Marine second, Simonetta, Charlie Pitcher third.
The RCOD fleet was led to the first mark by Sue Law in Coralie. Cormorant won having been in third on the first leg, with Coralie second and Corinna owned by Martin Makey third.
The ECOD Wraith got the best start, crossing the line a long way ahead of Widgeon. However, the bermudan rigged Widgeon got ahead of her after the start to lead for the rest of the race. Widgeon won with Wraith second.
The Ospreys had two windward leeward races today, in the first race Light n bitter, Alex Mamwell won, with Dark Matter, Roger Blake second, with Robert Shaw in Bird of Prey IV third. The third race of the weekend saw Robert Shaw in Bird of Prey win with Dark Matter second and Lee's Boat, Russell Wheeler third. Robert Shaw leads Dark Matter by one point in the series.
The dinghies had two races from the Burnham Sailing Club. The first race took them up to Cliff Reach and down to Number 3. The phantoms reached round the course with Mandy winning, Bob Portway, with Gromit second sailed by Chris Roberts, with Well 'Eeled, Eric Howe third.
In the dinghy handicap class they went to Cliff Reach but only went down to Number 7 on the final leg. On the water the Sprint 15 owned by Eamonn Browne took the bullet, with the Aero 7, Bryan Haynes second on the water. On corrected time Blanca, Eamonn Browne won, with the RS200 Max Haynes second.
In race two, Blanca took a second win, with the Aero second and Stephen Carty in his Laser Radial third. Overall in dinghy handicap, Blanca, Eamonn Browne is leading, with Bryan Haynes in the Aero 7 second, and Ethan Hague in the Laser 4.7 currently third.
