Cascais Vela - Day 1

Today was the opening day for the ORC and SB20 classes in the twenty-first edition of Cascais Vela. The opening day was marked by the light wind conditions that were felt in the bay of Cascais.

The Quebramar Trophy which is being disputed by the ORC class, the fleet competed in the two races scheduled for the first day. In division A, José Carlos Prista's boat Xeqmatt did not give the rivals a chance, with two bullets on the opening day. In second place in division A is the Super Açor Xis - Lusitania by Gonçalo Botelho, who is tied with the third placed, Giullietta II of Alexandre Kossack. In division B, with two victories in today's races, was António Tanger's 2hot2handle. Rodrigo Vargas' boat is runner up, and Vicky de Augusto Castelo Branco is third in division B. For the second day, the coastal race that will award the Pedro Mendonça Trophy is scheduled for 14h00.

In the SB20 class, which competes in the Mitsubishi Challenge, the fleet of more than five dozen began the day with a waiting period ashore as the wind at the start time did not meet the minimum conditions for the start the championship. The numerous SB20 class only competed in two races in very difficult low wind conditions. Leading the overall is Victor Demaison's Brazilian boat, which is assisted by two Brazilian Olympic athletes Jorge Zarif and Gabriel Borges. In second place is the boat from Cascais Irmandade by Per Croner with Gonçalo Lopes, Ekaterina Zubrilina and Manuel Macedo. The Belgian team Go With the Flow the Bart Tytgat and Kristof Woutters finished the first day in third place.

The first start signals are scheduled for Saturday at 14:00. The second day of Cascais Vela will be the debut day for the NHC class.

Cascais Vela runs from 27 to 29 August and has the support of the Municipality of Cascais, Turismo de Portugal, Cascais Tourism Association, Portuguese Sailing Federation, Quebramar, Cascais Marina, Mitsubishi, Sagres, Veneziani, Simões and Gaspar, Vista Alegre and JCDcaux.
