29er World Championship at Real Club Náutico de Valencia - Day 2

by Real Club Náutico de Valencia 27 Aug 2021 22:01 UTC 23-31 August 2021

The second day of racing was held with a light wind that has allowed only two races to be completed, after a postponement on land of almost an hour.

Devaux and Rio and Revil and Nell lead the classification in the male and female categories, tied on 6 points after applying a discard. In provisional bronze position are the German team of Krause and Georgi with 8 points. The Codoñer brothers are the best Spaniards in the overall rankings, occupying 13th place with 13 points, also being the first under 17s.

The two races forced the crews to do extra work in the face of the low intensity of the wind, resulted in a major turnaround in the provisional general classification, leaving France in the lead of the provisional general rankings in both male and female categories, led by Keo Devaux and Enael Rio (blue group) and Chloé Revil and Castilla Nell (white group), both tied at 6 points.

The bronze, at the moment, is for Carl Krause and Max Georgi. The German team has competed in the blue group, showing very solidly in the two races, and their consistency has allowed them to close the day with two second places that, after taking off their worst result, leaves them on 8 points.

The two Maltese sailors Antonia Schultheis and Ole Ulrich, leaders after yesterday's racing, did not have their best day. The team, racing in the yellow fleet, had a 3rd and 7th, which leaves them with 12 points in 10th place in the provisional rankings, although they are tied with the same points with three other crews: Jens-Christian and Jens- Philip Dehn-Toftehoj (Denmark) in 8th place, followed by Ben Mueller and Sam Webb (Great Britain) and Simon Karlemo and Lasse Lindell (Finland) in 11th position.

There has also been a change in terms of the best Spaniards in the results, now the brothers Mateo and Simón Codoñer (RCN Valencia), current champions of Spain, who become the best national crew. Both are in the 13th place although they are leaders in terms of the under 17s, with the Italian Malika Bellomi and Beatrice Conti in the females.

Tomorrow, Saturday 28 August, the qualifying round closes in which another three races are scheduled, with the firs start scheduled for 1pm. After closing the qualifying round, there will be three days of the final round with the gold and silver groups.
