2021 Hansa TT at Bristol

by Richard Price 27 Aug 2021 22:30 PDT 21 August 2021

We had a good turnout with 12 boats on the water made up of two Hansa 2.3s, two Hansa 303 doubles, two Hansa Libertys and six 303 singles. The event was hosted by All-Aboard Watersports Centre and the racing was run by Baltic Wharf Sailing Club.

There were three races though the day. The morning race being planned to be a Heads of the Harbour, but due to the lack of wind it was shortened to the corner of the SS Great Briton. In the afternoon we ran two short races to complete the series.

Just after everyone arrived the heavens opened, boats had to be bailed out before they were even launched! The rain had held off for the start of the first race. With light winds, all three classes started at the same time, with all the coloured sails this made for quite a sight. The end of the morning race was a little chaotic with competitors having finished, going back though the finish line and impeding others whom were still racing.

The rain cleared though and it started to warm up for the afternoon races. With only one false start with a dinghy over the line, needing to go around the pin and a cleaner finish for all competitors in the afternoon. The day ended on a high, as we returned to the pontoon, The Mathew came back up for its third trip in the sunshine.

The sun was out for the prize-giving, with coffee and cakes provided by the volunteers from All Aboard Watersports.
