National 12 class 85th Anniversary Event at Northampton Sailing Club - Preview

Preparations are in full swing for the National 12's 85th Anniversary Event at Northampton Sailing Club on 11th & 12th September 2021.

All times on the below schedule are approximate and subject to slight change, and of course dependent on the weather! Breakfast and Lunch will be available at the sailing club on Saturday and Sunday, with a range of homemade cakes available all day. Afternoon Tea for those coming to support and spectate will also be available. Please pre-book the Afternoon Tea in advance.

Camping is available on the Friday and Saturday night at Northampton Sailing Club.

Saturday 11th September 2021

N12 Fleet Racing

There will be a briefing at 11:00, with the first start planned for 12:00.
The intention is to run three races, back-to-back.
Prizes throughout the fleet, for 1st Admiral's Cup, 1st Non-Foiler, 1st U21, etc
Results from the main fleet will be extracted for the N12 Vintage Championships 2021.

Concours D'Elegance 16:00

This will be judged by multiple Burton Cup winners Will & Mandy Henderson, but we invite all attendees and spectators to enjoy the stunning range of National 12s on show which will include N1 'Gipsy' through to N3551 'Over The Rainbow'.

Informal Outside Games

These will be available all day and will feature 'giant noughts & crosses', 'giant Jenga' and much more.

National 12 Bits & Bobs Auction Results 17:30

A list of items available at this auction will be published online on 6th September 2021. The aim of the auction is to raise funds for the N.T.O.A. Anything related to the National 12s, sailing, or just something fun you're able to offer members of the class is welcome in this auction.

Please submit the details of any items you wish to donate to this auction to before 5th September 2021.
Sealed bids accepted via email to before 22:00 10th September 2021.
Sealed bids accepted on the day. There will be a collection box near the table with a catalogue of items available.

NSC Club Meal 18:00 - 20:00

Catch up with old friends and meet new faces, reminisce about previous races, and think about future class developments...we have opted for an informal dinner, which will be at Northampton Sailing Club. Tables are available inside, and a well-stocked bar will be waiting to be enjoyed! No need to book in advance for this, please pay when you order. If you are planning to attend for the social side without a boat, just let know, so we can arrange numbers with the club.

To be 'cut' by N.T.O.A Life member and dinghy designer Mike Jackson. Mike designed his first National 12 (N1516, a Lucia) in 1957 and his 1987 Final Chapter design remains competitive in the fleet to this day.

Sunday 12th September 2021

Mary Deare 85th Pursuit Race

First start for the oldest National 12 will be 10:30. Start times, based on boat design will be fairly calculated by Graham Camm and available on the Saturday evening. Vintage N12s will also be racing for the Derwent Handicap Trophy during this race.

Junior Race 12:45

For those aged under 21, race for the Midland Area Junior Trophy. Just one race to secure the title for 2021. For those aged over 21, spectate on shore or use this opportunity to have a sail in the different National 12 designs attending the event.

Prize Giving 14:15

Prize Giving for the whole weekend, including N12 Vintage Championships 2021, Midland Area Junior Trophy and Concours D'Elegance. Thanks to Dinghy Shack for their continued sponsorship of the National 12 National Series.

National 12 Northern Series at Ripon
One team suffers from 'a series of unforced errors' Alan Mason & Phil Gibson were the first in the dinghy park, getting the Sparklet 2066 rigged while the race team sorted out the rescue boats.
