In partnership with the Governor's Workforce Board (GWB) and the city of North Providence, RIMTA is proud to announce the successful progression of another summer boatbuilding program.

Funded by GWB Real Skills for Youth, 20 Woonsocket students ages 14-16 completed a 5 week program building a Chesapeake Bay Skiff. Held at Notte Park, the group worked 24 hours per week across all aspects of design and build while learning and reviewing critical work readiness skills throughout the process. The efficiency of the group allowed for additional time to be allotted for learning fiberglass repair and shop maintenance.

In Bristol, a completed boat will launch this Friday in a ceremony at the Herreshoff Museum. Eight Bristol students worked 5 weeks to build a functional Martha's Vineyard Tender. Hosted by the Museum, the students were able to receive instruction in a uniquely historic boatbuilding environment.

Each student received stipends while learning in compensation for their attendance and work hours. An additional boatbuilding program in Woonsocket that concluded in July also highlighted the proven success of RIMTA youth engagement.
