Great news for the upcoming Edgartown Race Weekend. This year they're seeing a record number of J/Boats with nearly 20 registered so far, ranging from J/105s to J/160s, and everything in between.
The ERW Regatta Committee are excited to have such a strong contingent of J/Teams. Two J/160s are sailing, John Zeiler's US 2598 and Alan Fougere's Avatar. Two J/122s look forward to their duel, Zach Lee's Hot Sauce and Andrew Clark's Zig Zag.
Three J/105s will vie for bragging rights, Ed Lobos' Water Wolf, Matt Schmitt's Hardtack and the trio of Joyce, Reservitz, and Wagner on Dark'N'Stormy.
Three J/109s will be a seesaw battle between Ted Herlihy's Gut Feeling, Eliot Shanabrook's Hafa Adai, and Ed Dailey's Raptor. It's likely that Doug Curtiss' J/111 Wicked 2.0, a multiple Round Island winner, will be taking the US Merchant Marine Academy's J/111 crew to "school" on Black Diamond.
Two J/120s will be in the hunt, Stephen Besse's Apre and Bob Reifeiss' Murmur. Finally, vying for both handicap and line honors will be three very-well sailed J/121s (David Southwell's Alchemy, Joe Brito's Incognito, and Bob Littleton's She's No Lady).
According to Margaret Passafiume, the ERW Race Administrator, "we are welcoming several recent newcomers to ERW, as well as teams that have raced in the past and are coming back into the fold. Joe Brito is bringing his J/121 Incognito, while John Zeiler is bringing his J/160. Great to have all our long-time participants back for another year. We are also excited to have the United States Merchant Marine Academy bringing two boats to Race Weekend, one being their J/111. It has been great seeing the growth in the number of J/Boats at ERW and hope to continue the upward trend going forward."
