A storm from the South and the consequent instability of the wind did not allow the Race Committee to start more than one race, compared to the three initially scheduled for the fifth day of the World Championships.

The race was completed with a northerly wind, an unprecedented condition for the participants who have so far completed all the races with Ora wind from the South.

With up to three more races to complete before discovering the name of the new Optimist World Champion, the ranking is more open than ever. The American Gil Hackel leads the ranking, but the order of the podium area changes: the Thai Weka Bhanubandh, in evidence since the early days and leader of the gold fleet at the beginning of the final stages, gives way to the Brazilian Alex Di Francesco Kuhl, winner of today's regatta and now provisional silver medal.

The Italian Adriano Quan Cardi, who is now fourth overall and first among the Italians, recovers an important position. Another Brazilian sailor, Lucas Cochi Kubelka De Freitas, closes the top five.

Important news also in the girls' ranking, where the Italian Lisa Vucetti takes control of the fleet, leaving behind the Spanish Marisa Alejandra Vicens. The Polish Ewa Lewandowska, who until now had steadily maintained the top of the standings, slips to third place.

After eight days of racing, between individual World Championship and Team Race, the Optimist World Championship will come to an end tomorrow. Up to three races can be completed.

The 2021 Optimist World Championship is hosted by Fraglia Vela Riva in collaboration with FIV, IODA, AICO, Riva del Garda Fierecongressi, North Lake Garda and Trentino.

All updates on the racing are being published on the Optimist World Championship 2021 website at 2021worlds.optiworld.org
