A change of pace in Riva del Garda for the Optimist World Championship, where the three qualifying days concluded yesterday for the individual World Championship gave way to the first of two exciting days of Team Racing.
There is a very high participation of national teams at this stage of the competition, with 48 flags represented on the starting line.
For many teams, this represents the first experience in the innovative discipline of Team Racing, very engaging for athletes and spectators, but which above all enhances the technical and tactical skills of young sailors, who must get out of the mentality of individual racing by putting interests and placements of the team ahead of those of the individuals.
Seventy-five races were completed today, which have progressively skimmed the list of participants from forty-eight teams to sixteen finalists. The teams that will participate in the finals tomorrow are: Italy, Ukraine, Hungary, Turkey, Spain, United States, Singapore and Finland, qualified from board A. With board B entered the finals: Thailand, Belgium, Croatia, Brazil, France, Portugal, Argentina and Lithuania.
Tomorrow the Team Racing Optimist World Champion will be crowned, while on Wednesday will resume the individual World Championship, which will come to an end on Friday 9 July.
The 2021 Optimist World Championship is hosted by Fraglia Vela Riva in collaboration with FIV, IODA, AICO, Riva del Garda Fierecongressi, North Lake Garda and Trentino.
At the time we are sending this press release, there are currently some protests under discussion that may affect the ranking. All the results are to be considered provisional.
All updates on the racing are being published on the Optimist World Championship 2021 website at 2021worlds.optiworld.org
