Ciao Pais and Nembo II win the VIII Principality of Monaco Trophy in Venice

Ciao Pais for the Epoca category and Nembo II for the Classics category are the winners of the VIII Principality of Monaco Trophy Le Vele d'Epoca in Laguna Coppa BNL-BNP Paribas Private Banking and Wealth Management, an event promoted by Anna Licia Balzan, Honorary Consul of the Principality of Monaco in Venice and by the Directorate of Tourism and Congresses of the Principality of Monaco in Milan.
Ciao Pais (Società Trestina della Vela) preceded Serenity from 1936 and Gilla from 1950, while Nembo II (Yacht Club Adriaco) got the better of Auriga from 1971 and Shahrazad from 1970.
The Trophy, organized in collaboration with the Yacht Club Venezia and the Sailing Club Il Portodimare, was held with the sports direction of Mirko Sguario and with the patronage of A.I.V.E., the Italian Vintage Sails Association. The Race Committee was directed by the President A.I.V.E. Pier Maria Giusteschi Conti, assisted by the National Judge Giancarlo Frizzarin, Emilia Barbieri and Massimiliano Cervelli.
This year the regatta set a record with over thirty participating boats built between the early twentieth century and the early 2000s. The boats were divided into 6 categories (Classic, Epoch, Non-measured boats, Flounder, Spirit of Tradition, Spirit of Tradition A).
Ranking: In the category "non-measured boats" the 15 Metri S.I. (International Tonnage) Mariska of 1908 first in real time, followed by Palaia Tyche (1963) and Jason (1970). Among the Passere, the victory of Aspasia (1950) which got the better of Capriccio (1981) and Persephone (1965). Among the Spirit of Tradition, Mozart (1984) won over Isabella (1999) and Tiziana IV (2002). Among the Spirit of Tradition 'A' the podium went to Quasar (1986), followed by Moretto (1977) and Agos (1976).
On Saturday the boats were engaged with a first regatta on a triangle course in the waters in front of the Lido while on Sunday morning they headed towards the basin of San Marco for the traditional parade confirming once again that only Venice can offer the public perspectives unrepeatable.
This year the show was truly extraordinary: the public was able to admire the Palinuro, the beautiful three-masted schooner of the Navy, sailing a few meters from the shores accompanied by the procession of the Ladies of the Sea and the historical Shores present for the event in the lagoon. Subsequently the second regatta of the Trophy was started, a coastal race of about seven miles which saw the participation of Palinuro, a true Queen of the sea thanks to its 69 meters in length!
The event then ended with the awards ceremony, in the setting of the Arsenale. The first three classified in each category were awarded prizes by the prestigious Barovier & Toso brand.
