Tokyo2020: Kiwi Nacra17 Olympic representative suffers serious injury in training

New Zealand Nacra 17 sailor Erica Dawson has suffered a small break in her fibula after a training accident in Australia, five weeks out from the start of the Tokyo2020 Olympic Regatta.

The incident occurred at Mooloolaba, last Tuesday. Yachting New Zealand has not released a statement in regard to the incident.

On her Facebook page, Dawson says:

"Not the ideal situation 5 weeks out from the Olympics… ??"

"On Tuesday in Mooloolaba I came off the boat and got hit by the rudder breaking my fibula."

"I will do my absolute best for a speedy recovery to be on that start line with Micah and come out stronger."

Dawson posted photos on her Facebook page which show some substantial swelling on her lower leg.

Dawson is the forward hand on the foiling Nacra 17 catamaran. Her skipper, Micah Wilkinson was apparently not injured in the incident.

Erica Dawson is also part of the NZSailGP team Live Ocean - however is on stand down from the team to allow her to compete in Tokyo 2020 which starts on July 26 at Emoshima.
