Entry is officially open for two exciting match racing events coming up this year at the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron.
The first is the Auckland Match Racing Championship, presented by Harken New Zealand, held on the 21st and 22nd of August 2021. Formerly known as the NZMRC qualifier event, the top three finishers at this event will gain automatic entry into the Harken NZ Match Racing Championship held between the 30th September – 3rd October 2021.
There are already some top sailors lining up to compete at the Auckland Match Racing Championship, presented by Harken. Entered teams include RNZYS Performance Programme team skippered by Robbie McCutcheon, RNZYS PP / Royal Irish Yacht Club team led by Niall Malone, RNZYS PP / Knots Racing skippered by Nick Egnot-Johnson, RNZYS PP / 2.0 Racing skippered by Megan Thomson, and a Mastercard Youth Training Programme team helmed by Josh Hyde.
As an extra incentive to get your entry in for this event, if you place your entry before the 21st of July you will go in the draw to win a $100 Harken voucher. Online entry, as well as the published notice of race, can be found online HERE
Entry is also now open for the Harken New Zealand Match Racing Championship, which is an official national championship. Some of the skippers already lining up include Mastercard YTP Training Manager Reuben Corbett, Robbs Hielkema, Robbie McCutcheon, Megan Thomson, and Niall Malone.
Competition at this event is always fierce, which was shown at last year’s edition when sixteen talented teams battled it out in blustery conditions, with Graeme Sutherland coming out on top after taking down Nick Egnot-Johnson in the final. The competition will be no different this year, so if you want to put your match racing to the test and take on the best in NZ, get your entry in today HERE
All racing for both events will be completed in the RNZYS fleet of Elliott 7 keelboats and will be raced on the tricky waters outside the Squadron. The RNZYS encourages all sailors wanting to compete to get your teams together and get your entries in as soon as you can.
