Doyle Sails has announced its partnership with marine conservation charity Live Ocean, and comes on board as a major supporter. The global sail making business says there is an “obvious and very natural fit” between Doyle Sails and Live Ocean, with a shared commitment to excellence on the ocean.

Live Ocean was founded by sailors Peter Burling and Blair Tuke in 2019. It funds, supports and amplifies the messages of ambitious New Zealand scientists and innovators and also connects people to the ambition for a healthy ocean.

The message of ocean protection and restoration is now taken to the world stage through the New Zealand SailGP Team, which has Live Ocean as its Race for the Future charity partner. In December 2020, Doyle Sails announced their partnership with the New Zealand SailGP Team and also as the Official Sailmaker to SailGP.

Today they are also announcing an official partnership directly with Live Ocean. Co-founder of Live Ocean and co-CEO of the New Zealand SailGP Team Peter Burling says “we are stoked to have Doyle Sails on board with Live Ocean and the NZ SailGP Team. To have a world class sailmaker that’s owned and operated out of New Zealand and shares our environmental values is a pretty special alliance to have.”

“As sailors, we spend a large part of our lives on the ocean, and it is our obligation to our future generations to preserve the ocean as best we can. At Doyle Sails, we have a primary focus on reducing our environmental impact, and already have a number of lofts around the world operating at carbon zero levels and the partnership with Live Ocean it the perfect opportunity to do more. Ultimately, we are a group of sailors who share similar philosophies across performance, technology, innovation and sustainability as we both continue to redefine sailing on the global stage – with as little footprint as possible” says Doyle Sails CEO Mike Sanderson.

Burling continues “we’re really pleased to see Doyle Sails come on board and support the ambition for a healthy ocean”.

His long-time sailing partner and co-founder of Live Ocean Blair Tuke says “sailors have a special connection to the ocean and have seen first-hand the effects of human impact. It’s time for us to really focus on how we protect and restore the ocean and with partners like Doyle Sails we can do that”.

Our obsession with sailing takes us to every corner of the world and onboard every yacht. We become part of teams, share in the adventures of friends and families, sharing our knowledge and experience with those who have the same passion for sailing as we do. Sailing is in our DNA, where the water unlocks our sense of adventure. We are the custodians of a legacy that has been supporting sailors for close to four decades, and while our world changes around us, our commitment to sailors who seek the same enjoyment and adventure as we do hasn’t.
