Twenty-six sailors assembled for the second ILCA South Coast Grand Prix of the season at Spinnaker Sailing Club on 4th June.

Despite good weather, sea breezes had not been arriving at the lake until late afternoon, so the race officer got racing under way as soon as the light breeze had filled the lake, albeit still somewhat variable. The standard Lasers/ILCA 7 set off first with Stokes Bay's Jake Farren-Price, Emsworth's Charlie South and local sailor Keith McQuillin soon establishing a leading group finishing in this order after many changes of place.

The second and third races had a familiar feel at the front, but with Charlie and Keith swapping finishing positions. Contrary to form, a steadily freshening SW breeze settling had built so competitor enjoyed champagne conditions. In the fourth race, Keith established a clear lead; the chasing pack finally sorting themselves out with Jake second chased home by local sailor Ian Hickman.

In the ILCA 6, visitors Findlay Bignold-Kyles from RLymYC and Kai Hocley stretched locals Robert Marshall and Michael Farmer. Local knowledge edged the results throughout the day. Michael took the first two races with Findlay and Robert taking the seconds. The latter races were won by Robert to clinch the overall win. Despite, Findlay picking up two more 2nd, he was just beaten by Michael. Gabby Burns led in the three local ladies.

The ILCA 4s, including a strong RLymYC contingent which dominated the results. Harry West cleared three first to secure the win. A chasing group saw top 3 results from Cameron Bignold-Kyles (RLym) and Olly Phillips. In race 4, Ben Mehta (Salcombe YC) led the whole fleet around; his afternoon results improved as the wind had built and he edged the second overall from Cameron. Emily Shears (Reading SC) was first girl.

The next South Coast Grand Prix is Lancing on 4 Jul.
