The Ocean Race Europe: Fleet passes through Strait of Gibraltar

The 12 boat fleet in The Ocean Race Europe, which started yesterday have passed through the Strait of Gibraltar en route to the finish in Alicante, Spain.

As in Leg 1 the two fleets are mixed into a single 12 boat fleet, with the IMOCA 60 LinkedOut beung 292.1nm from the finish, and the VOR65 Sailing Poland has 291.9nm to sail to the finish at 1325UTC on June 7, 2021.

The fleet is sailing into a reducing breeze of 11kts, according to Predictwind.com observations at Gibraltar.

In The Daily Fix, 11th Hour Racing explain the incident just after the start when they struck the anchor line on a spectator boat and the impact this will have on their performance on Leg 2 and maybe the rest of the race.


Video has been made available of the fleet reaching fast past Cape Vincent in Portugal, at the entrance to the Strait of Gibraltar with most teams inboth fleets flying A4 asymmetrical gennakers to good effect in a fresh breeze.
