Canadians will be invited to discover the joy of sailing or to enjoy their favourite sport this summer, particularly over the weekend of July 31st and August 1st as Sail Canada, in collaboration with the Provincial Associations, sailing clubs and schools across the country, will stage various initiation activities during the 2021 #GoSailing days.

The events will be held in accordance with the public health and social measures that are in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Organizations who are looking to take part in these #GoSailing days can record the activities they are planning on July 31 and August 1 at sailing.ca/gosailing. They have until July 20 to do so. Over the next few months, clubs and schools will also have access to promotional tools that are designed to introduce sailing to Canadians, especially in the context of the competitions that will be held at the Olympic Games in Tokyo.

On July 31st and August 1st, Canadians looking to get acquainted with sailing in the company of their family members will find all the details on the programming offered by participating clubs and schools on Sail Canada's website.

Sailing fans will also find a list of activities that will enable them to celebrate their sport.

There will be plenty of promotional opportunities on #GoSailing Canada Days! Sponsors and supporters are invited to contact Sail Canada to get on board: .

Here are a few of the initiatives that are planned for the 2021 #GoSailing Days on July 31st and August 1st:

Family initiation to sailing
A total of 350 sailing clubs and schools from across the country will be invited to organize initiation activities as well as family sailing expeditions.

Everyone #GoSailing on the road to Tokyo
Canadian sailors will be invited to cheer for the Canadian Olympic Sailing Team by collectively sailing for a total of 1,500 hours, which represent the 12,000 km distance that separates Ottawa from Tokyo if one were to travel in a straight line between the two cities at an average speed of 5 knots. Sailors will be invited to record their time online and Sail Canada will make frequent updates over the weekend on the number of hours logged in through its social media.

Virtual racing
Sail Canada is set to launch the first edition of the Canadian eSailing Championship on June 1st, and races will be organized through the Virtual Regatta platform on July 31st and August 1st.

Drawing contest
Youngsters will be invited to draw the sailboat of their dreams on a new page for kids that will be available on Sail Canada's website.

Several other activities and more details will be released at a later date. Until then, participating clubs and schools can record their event for the 2021 #GetSailing days, July 31 and August 1, at www.sailing.ca/gosailing.
