Boat owner praises BoatSecure for saving expensive new batteries from ruin

All looks very quiet and serene on the marina - but what is happening below decks? BoatSecure's system keeps and eye on your boat 24x7, potentially saving expensive damage - April 29, 2021 © Boat Secure

BoatSecure user James who berths his boat Hank, in Auckland, has recently praised the remote monitoring system for alerting him to a power problem that could have ruined his new boat batteries.

James says, I recently had an alert from BoatSecure advising power was out at my boat. Initially thinking it was a controlled power outage, I went to the boat and checked to find the circuit breaker had tripped during heavy rain. Without that 'alert' I would have destroyed my battery bank which had only just been fully replaced. BoatSecure is a no brainer.

John McDermott, CEO of BoatSecure explains that James and his boat Hank have been users of BoatSecure since the system launch. "It's great to have a such a positive endorsement from one of our customer that has benefited from having BoatSecure onboard"

The BoatSecure system continuously checks key signals from the boat and reports them back to a smart phone app and web dashboard. The system alerts the boat owner if shore power is disconnected and the app includes a graph of battery voltage so that the status can be checked.

The report from James is a good example of how BoatSecure can alert the boat owner or a boat manager at their marina to check for issues on board. John says that the system alerts boat owners to shore power faults that otherwise go undetected until the boat owner next makes a visit.

In this case the marina power supply had not failed, it was the boat electrical system that had tripped. Left unattended the batteries would suffer a deep discharge, resulting in reduced service life or complete failure. In addition, the bilge pump and other electrical equipment onboard would not be operating, placing the boat at further risk.

As well as the Shore Power and Battery Voltage other signals the system can monitor include bilge pump operation, intruder detection from door or hatch switches and the GPS location of the boat.
