When we arrived it was freezing cold and the forecast was saying a very high chance of sleet and over 25 knots of wind. Luckily the forecast was wrong, and even though there were some big gusts of 28 knots the weather was generally nice, and we were able to get 5 races in.
In the end there were 6 Scows out, and we had some really close racing. The wind was ridiculously shifty and gusty in the river, which made things harder in the Scows, which weren't very manoeuvrable.
Me and William (my brother) won the first race, then after lots of very close racing it was all still even after 4 races and three different boats could have won it. Me and William won the last race to finish first overall, with Dirk and Johnny second, Sienna and George third, Max and Cam fourth, Joanna and Freya fifth and Ben and Laszlo sixth. Special mention as well to Ben and Laszlo who managed to finish all the races despite weighing around 50kg together.
It was great fun and a massive thanks to all the volunteers who helped run the event and managed to get out of bed that early and give up their time to make the Peter Andreae go smoothly. To see the forecast and still turn up without the motivation of a cash prize is very impressive! It was a fun event all round.
