Salcombe Gin announced as title sponsor of the RS Summer Regatta

by Sally Campbell 16 Mar 2021 05:21 PDT 26-27 June 2021

We all know that there is nothing better after a thrilling day's racing on the water than a perfectly mixed gin & tonic sundowner whilst looking out to sea, and thus a perfect partnership has formed.

Inspired by the coastal vitality of Salcombe and its shipbuilding heritage, Salcombe Gin creates their multi-award winning collection at their waterside distillery on Island Street, Salcombe; one of the world's only distilleries directly accessible by boat.

Drawing influence from the 19th century Salcombe Fruit Schooners built in Salcombe and neighbouring Kingsbridge, these hand-built ships were small and fast to carry the highly perishable cargo of fresh fruits and spices from around the world to England's ports. Harnessing the essence of these ships' precious cargo and their exotic trading routes, Salcombe Gin use only the finest citrus fruits and spices to create their collection of exceptional gins, each led by flavour and inspired by history.

The Salcombe Gin RS Summer Regatta takes place at Royal Torbay Yacht Club on 26th and 27th June, incorporating the Noble Marine Salcombe Gin RS500 National Championship and is the ultimate Summer celebration of dinghy sailing, with the UK's most popular dinghy racing classes at the RYA's club of the year 2019.

With sailors keen to get back on the water after lockdown, the event was sold out within a record 48hours of going live. The RS Class Association and Royal Torbay are now working on plans to accept those on the waiting list and keeping a watchful eye on the government roadmap, with ideas in mind for an après sail celebration to match the racing.

RS Class Association Chair, Pete Vincent said "Salcombe Gin was created by 2 former dinghy sailors, inspired by the fastest small sailing boats of the 19th century bringing exotic fruit to England; our RS Sailing Dinghies are the 21st century equivalent, bringing the thrill of dinghy racing to sailors of all ages and backgrounds. We are delighted to announce this sponsorship and looking forward to what promises to be the stand-out event of the season.
