Liberty Bitcoin YFGC - Overall

by Conrad Colman 12 Mar 2021 13:27 PST 3-12 March 2021

No wind, no racing. DutchSail - Janssen de Jong win in Gaeta as all eyes turn to act 2 of the Liberty Bitcoin YFGC in Limone in August.

Yesterday, Gaeta served up a feast, but today it was a famine. Following yesterday's exciting fast foiling conditions, Gaeta brought the Liberty Bitcoin YFGC back to earth with a complete absence of wind today. However, after 28 race, including 10 in the finals, we didn't need more races to crown the winner.

Team DutchSail - Janssen de Jong were head and shoulders above the competition and finished 14 points clear of Young Azzurra in second place. Rounding out the podium was the other prerace favourite, RHKYC Team Agiplast.

While the final podium directly reflected the favourites going into the regatta, the Persico 69F proved to be an accessible foiling platform. Teams new to the boat were quickly able to mix it up with the best, notably the American Southern Challenge, who transitioned almost seamlessly from the Nacra 17 to the more powerful foiling monohull.

Attention now turns to the Liberty Bitcoin YFGC second act, held in Limone in August.

Overall Results:

1st NED: Team DutchSail - Janssen de Jong, 65pts
2nd ITA: Young Azzurra, 47.5pts
3rd HKG: RHKYC Team Agiplast, 42pts
4th EUR: Kingdom Team, 32.5pts
5th USA: Southern Challenge, 30pts
6th SUI: One Switzerland, 26pts
