There's not much that Tasmanian sailing legend Don Calvert doesn't know about sailing on the River Derwent in Hobart, and the proof was in the pudding yesterday with the skipper sailing his Castro 40, Intrigue, to victory on IRC and AMS handicaps, and taking out third place on performance in Division One of the Combined Clubs Summer Pennant Series.

Ross Mannering, bowman on Intrigue and Vice Commodore of the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania, said that the breeze was a bit up and down, but they had a great day on the water. After a general recall, Intrigue headed east off the start line which paid off for the team. "Despite a wineglass at the start of the second downwind leg, we managed to just get enough time on our rivals and, once again this season, we had great racing with only seconds separating some boats," said Mannering.

Farr 40 War Games (Wayne Banks-Smith) won on performance from Fork in the Road (Gary Smith). Whistler (Drew Latham) was second on IRC with Midnight Rambler (Ed Psaltis) in third with their positions reversed on AMS.

In Division Two, Wings Three (Peter Haros) had an excellent day winning on IRC by one second on corrected time from Arunga (Andrew Parker), and finishing in third place on AMS and performance. 42 South (Mark Ballard) won on performance ahead of Arunga with Wings Three third and took out the AMS handicap from Pirates Pride (Peter Masterton) and Wings Three.

Rumbeat (Justin Barr) was the stand-out boat in Division Three, finishing second across the line to take out performance handicap, and won on AMS from Invincible (Bryan Walpole) and finished third on IRC behind Invincible and Young Lion (Steve Chau).

Wayatih (Allan Morgan) won on performance handicap in Division Four from Kindred Spirit (Peter Alcock) and Innovator (Ian Smith / Dean Aberle).

There are two races left in the Combined Clubs Summer Pennant Series. Some winners are looking reasonably certain while others will go down to the wire.
