The Seafloatech POD® from Seafloatech has been awarded the "Solar Impulse Efficient Solution" Label, rewarding profitable and sustainable solutions which protect the environment.

The Seafloatech POD®, an adaptable seabed-to-surface anchoring device, was attributed the "Solar Impulse Efficient Solution" Label following an assessment performed by external independent experts and based on verified standards. It is thereby joining the #1000solutions challenge, an initiative by the Solar Impulse Foundation to select solutions that meet high standards in profitability and sustainability and present them to decision-makers to fast-track their implementation.

The Seafloatech POD® is a safe, environmentally friendly and adaptable seabed-to-surface mooring system. An alternative to conventional solutions such as chains and anchors, it is connected to the seabed with a singular fixed mast which is articulated at its base.

A hydraulic piston allows the upper part to swing from side to side as well as up and down in line with the swell of the sea, thereby minimising the effects of the tide. Installation is easy and needs only light equipment, and is fully removable. It is a real step forward in coastal management in all the aspects of sustainable development: social, environmental and economical.

Advantages of the Seafloatech POD®:

  • Ecofriendly: it reduces the impact on the natural environment and seabed
  • Stability: it controls the floating installation at one fixed point against the ocean swell and tidal range
  • Protection: its stability ensures the safety of any persons or property on site
  • Space: it reduces the surface area required by a floating installation by a factor of 4
  • Monitoring: it allows for Environmental Surveys to be carried out by installing monitoring devices

To receive the "Solar Impulse Efficient Solution" Label, the Seafloatech POD® was thoroughly assessed by a pool of independent experts according to 5 criteria covering the three main topics of Feasibility, Environmental and Profitability. All labelled solutions are part of the #1000solutions portfolio that will be presented to decision-makers in business and government by Bertrand Piccard, Chairman of the Solar Impulse Foundation. The aim of this initiative is to encourage the adoption of more ambitious environmental targets and fast-track the implementation of these solutions on a large scale.

"It is a real honour and the mark of many years' hard work and dedication from the whole team to have been awarded as one of the #1000solutions of the Solar Impulse Foundation. Bertrand Piccard is a true pioneer, and his vision of the union between ecology and profitability aligns strongly with the ethos behind our Seafloatech solutions. With this label in hand, we are excited by the prospect of our solutions being presented to key players and decision-makers in government and beyond, and the development of Seafloatech as a key solution for a clean economic growth." - Lionel Péan, President and Founder of Seafloatech.
