The Championship, promoted by Ocean Marina Yacht Club, starts the four-event series 27-28 February 2021 at the fabulous marina just south of Pattaya. In spite of missing international entries because of Covid, there is already a good entry list and the promise of this exciting series to continue where it left off last October. Entries range from the fully experienced to those just starting to enjoy One Design racing.

Keeping the races short gives the experienced crews plenty of close and exciting racing, but also allows the relative newcomers to the sport to stay close to the fleet and be part of the action. Up to six races a day ensures the continuity of the action. These events, by common request of skippers, have been reduced from four-day regattas to just two days, and entry costs cut to an absolute minimum. With shorter races but more of them we have cut the “frills” but increased the “thrills”.

Racing is about winning, but at club level it also has to be fun and encouraging for all competitors. We aim to help the ‘newbies’ to our fabulous sport to enjoy their racing as they gain more experience.

This year we welcome the FLS company (fls-projects.com) who have sponsored a boat for the series. FLS is recognized on a regional and global level as an excellent partner for tailor-made project logistics solutions as well as heavy lift transportation. Instead of simply treating this as an advertising exercise, we will actively promote their employees to come and witness the pleasure of sailing and racing. Promotion should be about involvement, not simply additional funding. It is hoped that we will eventually have their boat crewed by their own team, and encourage other companies to follow suit.

The Platu Championship of Thailand provides some of the best One Design racing available in the region, and we encourage you take a serious look at taking part. Gone are the days of drawn out events, with overly-expensive parties and only one or two races per day. These compact events give absolute value for the time and money involved. We have simply cut out all unnecessary “off water” expenses and reduced time away from home whilst retaining as much, if not more, of the action on the water.
