Innovative eco-friendly clothing brand, OceanR, has been announced as the sponsor of The Green Blue's University Sailing Sustainability Challenge (USSC), the winners of which are due to be awarded at the RYA Dinghy Show later this month.

The Challenge, which is in its 5th year, encourages university sailing clubs (USCs) to take positive action to complete as many sustainable actions as they can throughout the academic year. The Challenge continues to develop year-on-year, with further actions and suggestions for USCs to achieve as they progress up the awards from Bronze to Silver and eventually to Gold.

The new Challenge sponsors, OceanR, are specialists in the design and supply of eco-friendly apparel and products. Much of their clothing is created out of recycled polyester which is made using either reclaimed ocean waste, such as fishing nets, discarded water bottles or post-consumer waste. Their clothing trims are sustainable too and are made from natural fibres, including hemp, bamboo, flax and vegan leather. OceanR will be supporting the USSC with a cash prize of £1000, which will be split across winning USCs drawn from a prize draw at each award level.

Adam Chubbock, Sales Coordinator at OceanR, commented: "Our mission is to reclaim as much waste as we can from our oceans and recycle it into eye-catching sustainable clothing and products for sailing clubs and other businesses. The Green Blue's University Sailing Sustainability Challenge closely aligns with our sustainable ethos. We are excited to be sponsoring the Challenge and look forward to working with the participating university sailing teams from across the UK."

Since 2016, OceanR has been a leading supplier to luxury resorts across the world. Their team of highly skilled and creative designers customise their range of quality, sustainable products to meet their customers' specialist needs.

Kate Fortnam, The Green Blue's Campaign Manager, commented on the new sponsorship: "We're so pleased to find a sponsor that supports the sustainable behaviours that the challenge encourages. OceanR has a great synergy with the University Sailing Sustainability Challenge and we are really looking forward to working with them on this project."

The winners of the USSC will be announced on 28 February on the virtual Main Stage of the RYA Dinghy Show. You can find out more about the USSC on The Green Blue website or to book your free ticket to the RYA Dinghy Show visit www.rya.org.uk/dinghy-show/Pages/home.aspx.
