Extend the life of your technical clothing, reduce your environmental footprint

We are all becoming increasingly aware of our obligations to the environment and programmes such as Sir David Attenborough's 'Perfect Planet' on the BBC show us the evidence of climate change in graphic detail. On a personal level we can all make many small steps to help reduce our footprint on the planet, and environmentally-aware businesses are doing the same.

There is a key difference between a sustainability initiative and strategy for manufacturers. At a personal level, an initiative is the equivalent to recycling a proportion of home refuse, whereas a strategy looks at every aspect of your day-to-day life, calculating the impact of each activity, then finding ways of reducing it. An environmental impact strategy for any manufacturer is a set of initiatives, planned and implemented to address every aspect of their business. We have written about Henri-Lloyd's strategy and ethos in the interview with Chairman Hans Eckerström, titled 'Core Values' and 'The MAVerick', which specifically looked at the innovations which went into creating the Henri-Lloyd MAV range.

Henri-Lloyd's REPAIR-REWEAR service is the latest initiative as part of their overall strategy, and one that radically differs from the approach taken by the majority of clothing manufacturers. The idea of never throwing away a quality product is counter-intuitive to the culture of fashion brands and will inherently reduce the number of items we need to buy, but that's the key point Henri-Lloyd are making; buy quality, buy less, take care of your clothing and now, since sailing is a sport where we are subject to the elements and abrasion on the boat, repair technical items if they need it.

The evidence is that extending the life of your clothing by just nine months of active use reduces carbon, water and waste footprints by around 20-30%*.

REPAIR-REWEAR is an easy-to-use online service and currently offers repairs such as fixing tears, mending holes, replacing hoods and collars, new zips and replacement reinforcement patches on technical clothing. The item is washed, and the same talented workforce at the European Production Centre who make their clothing in the first place carry out the repair.

Henri-Lloyd's highly skilled team will communicate throughout the process to ensure any issues can be overcome. Where appropriate, a PFC-free water-repellent finish will be applied. Customers are protected by a 2-year warranty on all services.

Customers can contact with any specific requests or questions regarding the repair of their items. Find out more at www.henrilloyd.com/repairs

Henri-Lloyd is a brand striving towards a sustainable future and passionate about creating quality products for an active lifestyle which stand the test of time. When clothing inevitably gets torn, dirty or damaged, REPAIR-REWEAR is here to keep your clothing performing year after year.

This is another initiative as part of their sustainable strategy and helps us at a personal level take another step towards our own sustainable future.
