Happy new year! We're back from break and ready to take on 2021 here at Oakcliff. Getting the year off to an exciting start, the PRADA Cup challenger series begins this Thursday, January 14 at 9 p.m. EST.
The first match of Round Robin one pits home team American Magic against Ineos Team UK. Watch the action on NBC Sports Gold.
On another note, if you are thinking of signing up for next year's Bermuda race, get prepared this summer with Oakcliff's Offshore Academy. The academy will provide hands-on, real life offshore experience plus the US Sailing Safety at Sea course, a requirement for Bermuda crews. Applications are open - don't wait!
Looking to do some one design sailing before the summer kicks off in the northeast? Charter one of Oakcliff's one design Melges 24s for the Melges 24 Worlds in April (or just for some fun racing and practicing with your bubble). We have three boats left for charter. Contact Dawn for more information.
Finally, Oakcliff's High School Spring Semester is ready for takeoff. Eight trainees and two Oakcliff staff members will leave for bubbled spring training in Alabama at the end of January. To help them get there, we are looking for donations (or loans) of vehicles or chase boats. If you can help, email Dawn or call the office at 516-802-0368.
We're ready for an exciting and jam-packed 2021!
PRADA Cup starts Thursday
Starting this Thursday, January 14, the America's Cup challengers will face off in the PRADA Cup Challenger Selection Series to see which team will take on Defender Emirates Team New Zealand in March. Let's go American Magic!
The racing schedule for the PRADA Cup has two races a day, with a target race time window around 9 p.m., East Coast time. The Round Robins will take place from the 15th to the 24th of January, followed by the Semi-finals from the 29th of January to the 2nd of February.
The PRADA Cup Final will be raced from the 13th to the 22nd of February. The first race of Round Robin number one (Check out the bracket here) will pit American Magic against INEOS Team UK. Just like the Prada ACWS before Christmas, the racing will be available on NBC Sports Gold America's Cup Pass. Don't want to stay up late to watch? Recaps of the racing will be available on the America's Cup website.
Be ready for Bermuda 2022
Are you getting ready to sign up for next year's Bermuda Race? Prepare yourself with Oakcliff's Offshore Academy! The Academy will teach you all you need to know about offshore sailing, including a US Sailing Safety at Sea course. This course gives you hands-on education in all aspects of offshore safety, including life rafts, man overboard drills, flares, and more. For the Bermuda race, it is required that at least 30%, but not fewer than two members of the crew must have attended a Safety at Sea Course (or international equivalent).
The full Offshore Academy includes the Annapolis to Newport race, the Doublehanded Intensive aboard our retrofitted Melges 24s, and the Marblehead to Halifax Race. If you're pressed for time, you can choose to attend any one of these intensives independently. Learn more about the schedule and sign up online.
We also have a number of other programs set for summer 2021, including two high performance intensives, a Midwest Maxi Yacht academy (on our new-to-us Reichel/Pugh 86, formerly Windquest), and our World Match Racing Tour academy. Check them out on our website! Applications are currently open.
Charter Oakcliff's One Design Melges 24s
Oakcliff still has three one design Melges 24s available for charter ahead of the Melges 24 Worlds, this April 10-17 in Charleston. The boats, hull numbers 768, 801, and 802 are currently in Oyster Bay ready to be trailered. The charters are race-ready. Join three other teams who have chartered from us for this event. Contact Dawn at or call the office at 516-802-0368 to learn more.

Spring semester ready for takeoff
This year, we are excited to embark on our first southern training block with our High School Spring semester trainees. Eight trainees and two Oakcliff staff members will trailer 49ers and a Nacra 17 to Dauphin Island near Mobile, Alabama where they will stay bubbled in student housing at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab and train on the water for three weeks. About half are returning from the fall semester, while the other half are new to Oakcliff. We're excited to have even more students taking advantage of remote learning and training opportunities the Oakcliff bubble provides.
In order to make this trip run smoothly, we are seeking donations of vehicles (or the short term lending of towing-enabled vehicles), as well as support boat donations or loans down south. Email Dawn at or call us at 516-802-0368. We appreciate your help in getting our athletes training safely during these crazy times.
