Optimist Western Australian State Championship at the Goolugatup Sailing Carnival

World champions in the making Optimist class

Teenager Aaron Teo in Pressures On took out first place in the Optimist class State Championships, prompting many in the spectator fleet to wonder if they were watching an up-and-coming International competitor.

After three days of close racing and with one race having to be abandoned on a technical matter competition was fierce. Second place in the State titles went to twelve-year-old Zen Salisbury in Tachyon with Jasper Stay in Stay Ahead just two points behind in third place.

In the intermediate section, ten-year-old Thomas Cooper in Light Fury won first place on 10 points. Kasra Gripton-Mehman(U11) in Storm Stalker took out second place with Jack Brazier in Turbo Tub (U12) coming in third.

First placed female sailor in the Intermediate fleet was Isabelle Charly in Horse Power while Oceana Skippy Vitales-Jones in Wedge Tail took out second place.

In the Open Girls Competition first place went to Bindy Vitales-Jones in Peregrine with second place going to Sasha Monro who sailed Dash.

Kaison Puls, with his parents ventured all the way from Christmas Island to take part in State titles. Kaison took out the Country sailor award sailing Getaway.

The Goolugatup Sailing Carnival continues tomorrow with the Open Skiff and Laser Regatta. Competition concludes on Thursday.
