Thirteen children attended the final coaching session on a grey cool morning. The light winds allowed the sailors the opportunity to improve boat handling technique with a special mention to Cinar Ege Dortbas who managed to sail the windward/leeward course completely rudderless and quite a few times at that!

The session concluded with a set of short races with the beginner group setting off first, followed by intermediates and finally chased hard by the advanced group.

The end of the season race was also a chance to reflect on the year to date. Despite Covid restrictions, the Optimist section has grown considerably. One owner owned boat in Feb 2019, has ballooned to fourteen today and the number of Club Optibats has grown from five to ten. The IOCA training boat has also been used extensively to allow children to progress from Optibat to class boats.

Looking into 2021, the club will continue to grow the Optimist fleet, with coaching every Sunday, half-term and school holiday courses. The club will also run complete beginner courses from May onwards. Please email for more information.

From all the sailors at King George, Happy New Year!
