Australian 16ft and 13ft Skiff Championships postponed to Easter

After careful consideration Gosford Sailing Club (GSC) and the Australian 16ft Skiff Association (ASSA) have, this evening, made the tough decision to postpone the 'Red Pumps' Australian 16ft and 13ft Skiff Championships until Easter 2021.

This decision was made having regard to a variety of factors including the challenges currently facing the Northern Beaches and Greater Sydney, which includes Gosford, the current border restrictions between NSW and Qld and related uncertainties and NSW's Health advice more generally in relation to the NSW's current uptick in COVID-19 cases.

We believe the approach to postpone the regatta aligns us to similar decisions being made by other class associations, clubs and businesses whom are doing their part to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The safety of our sailors, volunteers and broader community is our top priority. Postponing the regatta will hopefully provide us with the opportunity to run the regatta with greater certainty, at a reduced health risk for all involved, and in a format which sailors, volunteers and spectators find enjoyable.

The deferred Australian Championships to be held 2nd - 5th April 2020, will see a slightly reduced schedule of racing, the details of which will be announced in January 2021 via the release of a new regatta NOR.

Thank you to GSC for their flexibility, our regatta sponsors for their understanding and the entire 16ft and 13ft Skiff community for your patience during these challenging times - as they say, 'we're all in this together'.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact ASSA through our website.

Best wishes to our sailors currently in lock down and Merry Christmas to all.

Regards,

Gosford Sailing Club & Australian 16ft Skiff Sailing Association
