Update from Burghfield Sailing Club

As the Summer moves into Autumn, Burghfield Sailing Club continues to be very busy.

The Autumn Falling Leaves Pursuit Race is proving a very popular draw and five races into the series a total of 88 boats have competed so far. Leading the charge in spectacular style are Steve and Sarah Cockerill in their RS400. Ben Rolfe is flying the flag in second place for a strong Aero fleet at the Club. And in third place is Richard Willetts, leading an equally strong resident Solo fleet. But it's early days in this series with a number of very decent sailors yet to make their presence felt!

Burghfield has also been host to open meetings in recent months. The Rooster RS300 Inland Championships and the Rooster/West Country Boat Repairs RS400 Southern Tour Open took place on Saturday 17th October which proved to be a very light wind affair. Amazingly, despite a rather dire forecast, competitors travelled from all over the country to... well just have a bit of fleet racing! And the competition was nonetheless about as good as it gets in both fleets.

Rooster RS300 Inland Championship Results:

1. Peter Mackin
2. Harry McVicar
3. Martin Harrison

Rooster West Country Boat Repairs RS400 Southern Tour Open Results:

The Blaze class remains strong at Burghfield and the Club hosted their Southern Championships on 3rd October. Clearly, people want to go fleet racing and 20 boats rocked up from all over the country.

1. Ben Harden
2. Michael Lyons
3. Malcolm Hutchings

And for the Club, its members and visitors, a new balcony canopy has been installed in the last week. The canopy will provide a weather-resistant covering which will mean the balcony can remain in use during inclement weather and with heaters will provide extended seasonal use. Furthermore panels in the area beneath the balcony will provide shielding from the weather to create an alternative outside changing space during these COVID-19 times.
