2020 Optimist European Championship at Portorož, Slovenia - Great success despite challenges

After only four months of preparation, and with all the Covid-19 protocols to follow and safety measures to comply with, the Pirat Sailing Club in Portorož, Slovenia, successfully brought the 2020 Optimist European Championships to the end.

The event was a huge challenge for everyone - for the organizer for sure, but also for the teams, who had to travel in these uncertain times, for the young sailors, who showed an immense maturity by complying with all the safety measures, and at the same time showed some great sailing skills; for the coaches and team leaders, who surely had much more on their plates than they normally would, for the parents, who, unfortunately, were not allowed to participate at the venue, and for the IODA officials, who had to trust this will all work out.

The credits for the successful finish of this unique 2020 Optimist European Championship for sure go to everyone involved. Happy sailing to everyone and let's hope the next Europeans will be held in the 'old' normality, which we prefer.
