The Land Union September Regatta, organised by the Royal Southern Yacht Club will take place this weekend, 19-20 September. Over 60 teams have entered, including the SB20 Class, which will be racing for their Open & National Championships.

The Land Union September Regatta fleet has a multitude of classes. HP30, Performance 40, J/111, IRC, Club Class, J/70 and XODs. Title sponsor Land Union, Antigua Sailing Week and North Sails have provided some fantastic prizes. Late entry is available with all documentation on-line at yachtscoring.com/emenu.cfm?eID=11820

Spectacular late summer conditions are forecast for the weekend with solid breeze and sunshine predicted. Keelboats racing under IRC will be split into several classes. The pocket rocket HP30 Class will be revelling in the surfing conditions. The Performance 40 Class will include the 2019 P40 National Champion Juno, skippered by Christopher Daniel. Also set for the regatta is the 2019 RSrnYC Summer Series Champion Blair & Beckett's King 40 Cobra. Five J/111 are entered, including Tony & Sally Mack's McFly, winner of the 2020 J-Cup. Mixing it up will be David Bartholomew's Cape 31 Tokoloshe 3 and Ian Atkins IC37 Icy.

The Club Class is growing in popularity at the Royal Southern YC, racing under the VPRS Rating system. The competition is designed for smaller teams that prefer round the cans racing, delivering some stunning vistas on The Solent. Racing in the Club Class this weekend will be Matthew Richardson's Ayaya, Claire Dresser's Lady Penrose, David Hitchcock's Red Five and Mark Catherall's Teela. The elegant Spirit Yacht Dido, sailed by Suzie Anthony will be racing, as will Christian Teichmann's stunning 6 Metre Abu. One Design Classes in action, include the historic XOD Class and also the J/70 Class. Lutz Strangemann from regatta sponsor Land Union will be racing his J/70 Mimis.

The Royal Southern Yacht Club has the pleasure of welcoming the SB20 Class for four days of action. On Thursday 16th September, the SB20 UK Sprint Championship is a stand-alone event with the SB20 fleet blasting along through six back-to-back short, sharp races.

The SB20 National Championships 2020 will be held 17th-20th September with ten races scheduled on their own windward leeward course. Hot favourite for the championship will be John Pollard's Xcellent. However, strong competition is expected from McAdam & Whelan's Breaking Bod and Gillet & Hines' PBII. Expect fireworks from Ollie Hill's young guns on Ethel and James Howells' Gelert, featuring the Bedford Pack. Simon Russell's Sportsboatworld has a stellar team of Ben McGrane and Jamie Lee.

All of the racing, race management and facilities ashore are organised in line with HM Government and RYA guidance on Covid -19. All teams will be racing with a reduced or limited crew with social distancing. For more information please visit www.royal-southern.co.uk
