It was fantastic news to be able to arrange regional opens again at Draycote Water Sailing Club and with some restrictions in place we published a NOR for Toppers to race on Saturday the 18th July, with fingers crossed for good weather and people wanting to race again.

With only pre-entry allowed, it saw seventeen 5.3's and eight 4.2's sign up and with the race brief delivered by video prior to the day, sailors arrived on site with maximum of 6 to a slip in two zones and launched on D flag in to a perfect 10 knot westerly breeze.

Four races for each fleet run back to back which provided some amazing and close racing in both fleets.

Jess Powell won the 4.2s and this is what she had to say:

"In my 4.2 fleet there was 8 people sailing including people who had competed at National level. It was remarkably close between my friend Imogen Green and I and we secured 2nd and 1st place respectively. 3rd place was taken by Edward Paling (Notts County Sailing Club).

"I am so ecstatic at winning my 1st open meeting at my home club (4.2 fleet) and look forward to competing in many more Topper events. Thank you to Draycote Water Sailing Club for getting us all back out on the water racing so soon."

Jessica Powell (611) - 46391:

"The 5.3s was won by Ben Pauling from Notts County Sailing Club with Ted Ball of Draycote Water taking second, Heather Quinn taking 3rd also from Notts County the racing in the fleet was very tight with only four points separating 4th to 10th position and a different winner in each race."

With a restriction on gatherings there was no prize-giving on the day, so trophies were posted out.
